Meet Snaider

More than 30,000 Haitian children live in orphanages. Nearly 80 percent have at least one living parent. These are the country’s disinherited — children whose families cannot afford to care for them and are forced to abandon them to orphanages or worse, the streets. At New Vision for a Better Life (NeViBL), we are committed to creating better lives for Haiti’s poorest, one disinherited child at a time.

Meet Snaider — a happy, healthy 13-year-old with hope for a promising future. But it wasn’t always that way.

Born into crushing poverty, he shared a small, makeshift shack with his mother and four brothers and sisters. Struggling to survive on the meagre income his mother earned as a beans merchant, the family could scarcely afford food, much less tuition. Without education, Snaider was destined to repeat the endless cycle of destitution and hardship.

At NeViBL, he immediately began taking special integration classes with our Education Staff to help him catch up academically. Despite his late start, Snaider adapted quickly and today ranks at the top of his class. Smart, outgoing, curious and studious, he excels at all subjects and is particularly interested in math, language (especially Haitian Creole) and writing. Soccer and other sports are also favorites. Here, he has also learned the power of prayer and is delighted by God’s positive and loving responses.

Through NeViBL, new worlds of possibility have opened for Snaider. Today, his goals are ambitious: to become a civil engineer, gain fluency in English, and work as an interpreter. He also dreams of one day building a hospital, orphanage and multiple churches — all to help lead Haiti’s future generations to a better life. And the best part is, those dreams now have a chance to come true.

Haiti is the most impoverished nation in the Western Hemisphere, with more than half of the country’s 11.2 million people subsisting on less than $3 a day. Each year, malnutrition ravages over 65,000 children under the age of five. Many children under 14 — more than a third of Haiti’s population — have virtually no access to health care, clean water or food security. NeViBL is dedicated to creating better lives for Haiti’s poorest, one child at a time. It is a monumental task. But with your support, we believe it is possible.
